Finally, pressing the Victorinox logo illuminates a red LED torch, just in case you find yourself lost in the dark somewhere.
The battery for the torch can be clearly seen through the translucent plastic casing, although getting to it seems a little tricky at first glance. However, to the side of the battery is a small hole about the size of a paperclip. If you insert a paperclip into the hole it will push free the battery cover on the other side of the knife and eject the battery.
The memory key is ejected by flipping back a plastic cover — it can then be twisted open like any other tool in the knife. You can either plug the whole knife into your computer or actually remove the memory key and slip the knife back into your pocket. The latter is a pretty cool feature and lets you still use both the knife and the memory key separately.
That said, Swissbit does offer a version of the SwissMemory Victorinox without any blades that can be taken onto a plane, although this kind of defeats the purpose if you ask me. This is pretty useful if you happen to store sensitive data on your memory key, allowing you to keep it safe, but still keep an area open for public access.
Unfortunately the answer to that question is, not very well. You can easily open each tool without the fear of having two or more tools clump together or closing accidentally on your fingers. While the SwissTool RS multitool is more expensive than many other tools, the Victorinox quality makes it worth the investment.
I'm the guy behind Multi Tool Mountain. I grew up in Wisconsin with a love for the outdoors. I currently live in Texas with my family where DIY home improvement projects keep my and my multi tools busy. Clicking on TravelItEasy is the first step to making your desktop computer as portable as possible. This feature allows you to bring along your Internet Explorer favorites and My Documents data, password protect the data on the USB drive, surf the internet without leaving cookies and images, and enter user information in case you lose the pocket knife or memory module and an honest stranger wants to return it to you.
For those that use Outlook Express, it will also allow data portability. Unfortunately this feature does not work with Outlook, which is what I use. On future synchronizations, the option is available to delete the existing favorites from the drive first.
It is also possible to browse through Internet Explorer without leaving any tell-tale signs on the computer being used. I can think of a couple reasons why this is a great feature, and no — neither one of them have to do with internet porn or online dating sites being frequented by married people! I am thinking about people that work in offices that are run by "big brother" types. This feature should allow users to do a little bit of surfing without anyone being able to check up on what sites were visited.
When this feature is activated it will close all open IE folders and reopen in a mode where no traces from the surfing session will be left on the host computer. After setting up a secure partition, the password must be entered to access that portion of the drive. The password remains active the entire time the drive is plugged in, unless you log out using an icon in the system tray.
For Windows users the drive can also be setup as a boot device to require a password to boot your machine. There is also a repair option, should the drive act out of the ordinary, bad sectors can be repaired. Main screen. Partition management. Overall the drive works as it should, the software to secure the data is easy to use and effective and the casing provides physical security for the drive.
